  3. 2:34Choosing Companies for Job Stability
  4. 3:28What an Architect Mindset Really Means

Key concepts in this video:

1. AI Skills vs. Engineering Fundamentals

Developers must balance learning AI tools and models with deepening their software fundamentals to pass technical interviews and market themselves effectively.

2. End-to-End Ownership and Traditional Industries

Engineers need to expand beyond low-level feature building into end-to-end responsibilities like system design and deployment, often finding more career stability in traditional industries.

3. The Chef Mindset and Code Review for Massive PRs

With AI shrinking implementation time, developers act more like chefs directing line cooks, focusing code reviews on interfaces, APIs, types, module boundaries, and data schemas rather than massive line counts.

Watch section from 5:36 →

4. Tools, Verifiers, and Token Management

Quality code generation relies on providing models with solid verifiers like API definitions, database schemas, and tests, while carefully managing token usage by avoiding redundant agent workflows.

5. Re-evaluating TDD in AI Coding

Traditional Test-Driven Development may cause excessive token burn and inefficiency with LLMs when requirements change rapidly, making end-to-end tests or writing tests at the end a more practical approach.

If you go fully AI and you ignore the fundamentals, you'll most likely not pass. All the interviews that a real software engineer needs to pass because they still want you to know what you're doing. They still want you to be able to code by hand. And if you only know the fundamentals, you won't be able to market yourself in today's market. A lot of people say you can think of AI as a junior engineer, that's not true.
